FAQ

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO RECORD?

Each project is different, in most cases I can work within your budget. If you’re unsure about costs feel free to email me at jay.voth at gmail.com and we can discuss your project further. I am also accredited with Manitoba Film & Music and can also work with you on applying for their production funds.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Anything that you need to be creative and record your song. I have a variety of instruments listed on my gear page that are available to use. There are no weird new skins/strings costs associated with using them and they are all maintained regularly. Please type up your lyrics when you are coming to record, if you’re not quite finished it’s not a huge deal, but it does help me when I get to that stage of your production.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

This really depends on your expectations and how prepared you are. Complex songs that are overdubbed (each instrument recorded separately) will take longer than ones recorded live in one pass. A talented, prepared band can typically record a three to four minute song in around 8-12 hours in my experience.

WHAT IS MASTERING?

Mastering is the final stage of a production where songs are fine tuned next to each other to create a finished album. This is also where loudness levels are raised to a commercial volume that is competitive with other releases.
